This is an in-process and evolving website currently focused on the past and present of the “E 500s” face-block of E Street (the area between 5th and 6th streets) in Davis, California.
The section labeled “1,” just below, addresses aspects of the history of this face-block.
Sections 2 and 3 photographically document some of the alarmingly frequent auto and bike crashes at the intersection of E and 5th.
I have taken these spates of crash photos in response to hearing, in my home at 523 E, screeching brakes terminating with a loud “THUD.” These sounds have been so common that I (and my neighbors) have often not bothered to go to the corner and look. So, this is only a portion of the crashes I heard and could have photographed at E and 5th.*

* Over 2004-08, there were 219 accidents at 5th Street’s intersection with streets A through L. See:

** Links starting “http:gallery” open in Apple’s “Gallery” format. Among other things, this means that sets of photographs can be viewed in four ways: Grid, Mosaic, Carousel, Slideshow. I find the Carousel mode the most supple and I have used it as the default setting for each set of pictures. But, all four options are click-available in the bottom left corner of the Gallery page.
